FAQs About Fiber

What are the benefits of fiber internet?

Fiber internet cables carry signals at nearly the speed of light and allow for the maximum amount of data transmitted over an internet connection in a given amount of time. Fiber is unquestionably the fastest, most versatile high-speed internet connection.

Fiber networks are scalable and can provide virtually unlimited bandwidth capacity—keeping up with consumer and technology demands. Because of the incredible benefits of fiber, fiber availability can increase home value by up to 3.1%.

What will construction look like?

There will be 3 main phases in the construction process.

1. Mainline Microtrenching: During this phase, crews will use a micro trencher to create the mainline fiber. There should be minimal impact on residents’ day-to-day lives.

2. Drop to the Home: During the second phase, crews will connect the townhome to the mainline of fiber underground. A box will be placed on the side of the townhome.

3. Install: Once the box is placed, fiber will be pulled through each townhome attic, starting on the side of the building where the box is established and going through each attic in order until they reach the last unit. As fiber is placed in the attic, the install tech will bring the fiber down into the utility room of the townhome and connect the ONT and gateway.

How can I prepare for a fiber connection?

If you currently have an ISP, check into contract requirements and any early termination fees. If you’re currently subscribed to cable TV, start investigating alternative streaming options that can replace your current package.

Can I bundle it with a TV service?

There are many different TV solutions available with a fiber connection. Streaming services like Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube TV, Sling, and more- should all run great with fiber internet speeds.

If you’re used to traditional cable TV services, these streaming solutions will differ slightly and require a streaming device. This capability is often built into television sets; however, it may be necessary to purchase a small device like an Amazon FireTV Stick or Roku – which can generally be found for less than $50. These streaming solutions are typically much more affordable than traditional cable packages.

What if the internet I have now is good enough?

That may be the case today, but internet applications are expanding every day, and you may soon find yourself wanting the option of faster speeds which is where fiber comes in.

Think back five or ten years ago – you probably never imagined everything that relies on the internet today (business, distance learning, entertainment, video calling, etc.). That trend isn’t slowing down, and the world we live in is driven by technology, most of which will require additional bandwidth and speeds.

It’s not unlikely to think that your internet usage will only go up, and getting connected to the fiber network will set you up for future success as your needs grow in the future.
